One aspect I love most about working with an iPhone and an attachable macro lens are the unpredictable imperfections. Sounds silly, right? With a small macro lens you can only achieve so much. There is a very narrow field of view that will be crisp and clear. Everything outside of the view is a soft blur. Sometimes, when the lighting is just so the blur is beautiful. I feel that way about one of my latest photographs of a Royal Walnut Moth. The only area in focus is the fabulous furry backside, but the wings, though they are not in focus, fade into beautiful shades of blue framed by orange lines. The combination of colors, textures, and lines make this more like an abstract painting than a photograph.
