Once upon a Friday, I was blessed with an exceptional, dramatic sunset.
From my sojourn in Portugal. There’s a via crucis (Way of the Cross) sanctuary up North, Bom Jesus do Monte (Good Jesus of the Hill), which started out as a hermitage in the fifteenth century. It was almost entirely rebuilt in the 1720s. Numerous wooded pathways surround the main church, and there’s a million little things to discover.
Processing done entirely in Adobe Camera Raw: Colors, white balance, blurriness and grain. Blur was a conscious choice, as I felt that individual details were less important than the whole, and would distract from the major contrast between black shadow and the fiery hues of the sky.
This was a great evening for photography.

São Tomé and Príncipe is a small, Portuguese-speaking island nation on the Gulf of Guinea, off the coast of Gabon.
Its capital is the city of São Tomé. People can seldom afford regular taxis, so bikers swarm the thoroughfares around the central market (the main trading hub in town) offering their services to market-goers and tourists. I spotted one parked on a quiet side street, and instantly found myself captivated by the tableau of this laidback gentleman taking a moment’s rest by an old, post-colonial building.
Taxis throng the wide street east of the central market, making it all but impassable. Here, a taxi driver attempts to make a u-turn and causes a huge ruckus, with other drivers jamming their horns impatiently. A young mother and her daughters weave their way out of the mess. Behind the taxis, the streets are lined with shops that cater to thrifty consumers.

I don’t have a title for this one. The little town I find myself in happens to be all abuzz with Holy Week festivities, and I spotted these decorations on an evening walk.
Took the picture with my Android phone and did most of the editing on Pixlr Express (I like it better than Photoshop Express, to be honest!) and then transferred the image to the computer to do a little post in Photoshop.
Processed in Camera Raw. I won’t spoil the mystery by telling you what it is. Best guess wins my lifelong admiration. 🙂
Some recent fun with Photoshop’s tilt shift blur. Photo taken on a ferry to the Cies Islands, off the coast of Vigo in northern Spain.
This is a part of my Red, Green, Blue set at FineArtAmerica.
