Top Fuel

Took my grandson to his first Top Fuel drag race and we both took lots of pictures. This is probably about 1/10th second after the green and they’re already moving fast enough that a shutter speed of 1/800 second was too slow to avoid motion blur. Click for larger to see the heat distortion from the exhaust. Around 10,000 horsepower each engine. 1000′ track length, 3.7xx seconds, 320-330 mph.

Olympus OMD EM-5, 150mm, F8, 1/800 sec, crop from camera jpeg. Took these from the stands, about 150′ away. Kudos to the track photographers, nitromethane is some nasty and dangerous stuff and being that close makes your insides feel like jello from the vibrations.
