Little Mantis

Over the weekend, while admiring the growth on my Stargazer Lily plants (they’ll be blooming in the next couple weeks!) movement caught my eye. What did I spy? It was a tiny Pray Mantis. When I say tiny, I mean it was only 1 cm long from head to tail. Wow! It was no easy feat capturing this baby with my iPhone (and attached macro lens). At one point, he (I’m just guessing on the sex) leaped onto my phone. After following him around the plant for a good ten minutes, he finally settled down and let me get this shot.

You can see his sibling in my Flickr Gallery.

  1. Very nice, difficult shot to get even with a longer lens. Surprised to see how small these get, around here they are pretty big, and truly fascinating.
