This is the first time I have been able to get this close to a dragonfly with a camera. He(?) was as fascinated with me as I was with him. Flew away about 5 times as I slowly got closer but came back repeatedly to watch me.
Click for larger, more detailed images. Taken with Olympus OMD-EM5, 40-150r f4-f5.6 lens, 150mm F8 for all, aperture priority, manual focus touch up to ensure proper area in focus due to shallow depth of field. All right at the close focus limit or very close to it(about 3′ or .9 meter).

Is that an upturned walking stick he’s settled on? Great shots! We don’t get many red ones, ours are usually green or blue. Wish I could get a pic like this though!
No, not a walking stick. It’s the original radio antenna of my 1972 Chevy Suburban 🙂 Never looked at it that close, it’s a rather interesting design. Red ones are rare here, too. Was just lucky he was curious and stopped racing around the yard 🙂
